How do you do Casual with Style?

Posted on 23/07/2012 It is often a struggle to get casual just right isnt it? Especially if you are going to a social occasion like someone's barbeque or for a nice pub meal or even a meal at a more relaxed restaurant.

How do you make your casual look show that you have style and that you have made a real effort?

Let's start with Jeans! Most of us have jeans and for some it is difficult to get just the right fit, however when the fit is good jeans can look great when teamed with a jacket, a great top which suits your shape and colouring and well thought out accessories.

So what jeans would be best, there are so many styles and colours.

I am afraid the answer is - it depends!

However here are a few tips:

If you are the fabulous + side of 40 then stick with the darker blues. This colour will flatter most figures and give you a great back drop to add your very best colours for the       rest of your outfit.

Fit is difficult I know however choosing the best style is a good start.

The good news is that a bootleg jean will suit most body shapes, so if in doubt go for this style.

If you are lucky enough to have an athletic, straight body shape then skinny jeans will work for you as well, always remember if adopting this style to create some softness and  curves with your tops.
Straight legs jeans can work for those with a straighter figure who carry a little more weight

Ok so the ladies in the picture above have plain white shirts mainly to show off the jeans and a white shirt can look great for some, however my advice would be to brighten up your look with some great colour. You could keep your white shirt and maybe add a red jacket or cardigan or alternatively add a navy jacket and some chunky bright jewellery or a scarf in a colour you love to add your personality.

To complete the look always wear at least a small heel or maybe a wedge with your jeans this elevates the jeans from casual to smart casual. Peep-toes are a great option with jeans, but remember to ensure you have looked after your feet a coat of nail polish will finish the effect.

For a great jean smart casual look the key is to keep it simple, keep it elegant and subtly show your personality with the finishing touches.
