July's newsletter with a networking tip.

Posted on 25/07/2017

The schools might have broken up and your thoughts, or indeed actions, might  have turned to holidays but that doesn't mean that business should stop. Our business networking meetings continue throughout August and we are usually happy to welcome well behaved children if childcare is an issue (please check with the Group Leader that there are no restrictions imposed by the venue, you'll find the leader's contact details on the relevant meetings page of our website). We don't charge for children attending but please cover any additional costs for their refreshments.

Continuing to network throughout the summer can give you a competitive advantage if others in your field take the summer off. You may find that there are fewer people attending a meeting in which case you'll have the chance for more in depth conversations with those there. However we sometimes find that numbers increase because many other networking organisations don't meet in August so you'll get to meet new people. In either case you win.

If you are planning to attend a meeting it is really helpful if you can book in via the website, click on the link below for the meeting you wish to attend. Booking means that the Group Leader can give the venue an accurate idea of numbers and can get in touch with you if necessary.

We're heading North!

I'm delighted to tell you that we're opening a new group in Lincoln on September 12th. The meeting will be held at the Horse and Jockey, Waddington. We'll share more details next month but if you are in the area or know anyone in business there please share the news. We're planning for this to be the first of a few groups in the area.

Networking tip

This month our tip is about generating interest in your product or service. Read it below.

If you'd like to find out about the Fabulous Women and Marvellous Men difference the best way is to visit a meeting. We allow visitors to attend two meetings without being required to join but if you've attended twice in the distant past we're happy for you to come again and take another look. If you've got any questions about us or our meetings do feel free to call me on the number below,

Stay fabulous

Networking tip: Why should I care?

Your audience will quickly switch off if they can't see why they should be interested in what you are promoting. Getting their interest is probably the most important goal for your one minute pitch. But how do you do this?

One of the best ways to generate interest is to talk about the results that you achieve for your clients. If you can demonstrate these visually it can really help to get people to sit up and listen. We have some photographers who do this very successfully and some of our designer makers show us samples of their work with similar success. How do you do this if your business is less visual?

Could you show some before and after pictures? Again easier if you are in the styling, beauty or de-cluttering business but a bit of creative thinking can make this work for other businesses. For example, a graph showing an improvement in your client's results could work for coaches and consultants. Perhaps you could have a picture representing how your ideal client feels before working with you to compare with one that shows how they feel following your input.

There is a saying that a picture paints 1000 words. You can't deliver 1000 words in a one minute pitch so how much more effective could a picture be in gaining your audience's interest?

(Please don't pass your samples or pictures round during the one minute round though as it is discourteous to the next speakers who deserve their opportunity to be listened to. Instead invite people to take a look in the break.)
